Digital tools in language education can serve a range of functions, including introducing new topics, reviewing past lessons, personalizing learning experiences, and assessing students' progress. These tools also challenge students to create their work, fostering creativity and deeper engagement. The new edition of the course “Teaching languages in the digital era: the best apps, web platforms and ICT solutions for learning languages” took place in Tenerife from 30/03/2025 to 05/04/2025. The participants came from all across Europe: Martina and Jana from ZŠ Jeseník in Czech Republic, Bruno from Sint-Franciscusinstituut Melle in Belgium, Jocelyne from Lycée Saint Esprit in France, Hanna and Katarzyna from Fundation Educational Trip in Poland, Adeline from Collège François Villon in France, Anna from BG/Sport RG (HIB) Saalfelden in Austria, Tereza from Gymnázium a Střední odborná škola Rokycany in Czech Republic, Roberto from C.P.I.A. 3 Nuoro in Italy. Throughout this course, participants learned how to effectively utilize various technological tools and incorporate them into their teaching practices. These tools are valuable for enhancing engagement and motivation and tracking progress, such as in vocabulary acquisition, communication, and individual work. The course provided ample opportunities for participants to engage in hands-on activities, allowing them to experience these tools firsthand. For example, they took part in a live quiz competition while also learning how to design interactive language quizzes using web applications. Tools like quiz flashcards, for instance, are particularly effective for boosting students’ vocabulary and spelling skills.
During the course, participants explored various web platforms designed specifically for creating language presentations. They had the opportunity to create and present their projects in an engaging and supportive environment, equipping them with the skills to apply these tools in their classrooms in the future. Additionally, participants discovered AI integrated tools that help outline and review lesson content, pose questions, and track students' attention, especially in the context of today's prevalent distance learning. They also explored platforms that simplify the creation of worksheets and explainer videos. Participants also explored specialized platforms that are highly beneficial for language learning, as they enable teachers to add voice notes, questions, and voiceovers to educational videos, transforming them into interactive lessons. Learning languages can be challenging, but with the right tools and the integration of technology into the classroom, it’s clear that motivation, attention, engagement, and learning skills can be greatly enhanced. Technology has the power to transform an ordinary lesson into an immersive experience. Learn more about this course here. |
