Empowering Educators for a Greener Future: A Journey of Sustainability and Innovation

Nowadays we are living in a critical time in history where we cannot ignore the topics of climate change and environmental sustainability. Because the consequences of the state of the environment will be mainly faced by the future generations, it is essential that teachers learn how to bring out these matters inside the classroom. Moreover, it is even more important to learn how to address these topics, encouraging a sense of possibility of change rather than despair.

​This new course “Green skills for education: promoting environmental awareness and sustainable actions in the classroom”, took place in Bologna from 01/12/2024 to 07/12/2023, with 10 participants  from CASA CORPULUI DIDACTIC CSUTAK VILMOS COVASNA (Romania):  Rancz Gyárfás Elemér, Vikol Katalin, Bonda Anna-Maria, Olah Hanna Barbara, Tokos Jenő, Kisgyörgy Kinga, Gazdag Katalin, Olosz Veronka Csilla, Nagy Tímea, Opra-Béni Béla.

At the start of the week, we concentrated on understanding Green Skills and their significance in today's world. On the first day, we reflected on the vocabulary surrounding Sustainability and Sustainable development. The next day, we delved into the concept of Greenwashing, giving participants the opportunity to research brands in their countries and all around the world, then learn how to distinguish genuine sustainable products from those falsely marketed as "green."

Another important focus was the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In group discussions, participants explored the seven SDGs related to environmental sustainability. They also discovered that every activity and discussion in the course was carefully designed to align with these goals.

The participants also had hands-on experience in making a difference through small actions and learned ways to engage both young students and adults in sustainable development. The activities they took part in sparked reflections on critical issues like global warming, carbon footprints, consumerism, and other aspects of climate change.

A key component of the course was the use of ICT tools, which not only enhanced engagement but also contributed to reducing waste—an important part of daily green practices.

Lastly, one of the most valuable aspects of the course was the exchange of best practices. Participants had the chance to share their experiences in sustainability and gain inspiration from the projects and activities of their peers. We are thrilled that our participants left Bologna with a wealth of new knowledge, a sense of accomplishment, and a heart full of fresh experiences!
