In an increasingly interconnected world, language learning plays a vital role in fostering communication and intercultural understanding. Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) has emerged as an effective methodology that merges language acquisition with subject-based learning. By exploring ways to integrate ICT tools, game-based learning, multimedia content creation, and experiential activities, participants became better equipped to promote linguistic diversity in education and to prepare their students for active participation as European citizens. A new edition of the course “Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) course for teachers” took place in Tenerife from 13/07/2025 to 19/07/2025.The participants came from all across Europe, with Victoria,Nicole from PG Ursulinen Graz in Austria,Maja and Žaklina from'Zmaj Jova Jovanovic' in Serbia,Lisa from HLW FSB Weiz from Austria, Simona,Giuseppe,Elisabeth ,Giancarlo from IIS di poppa rozzi in Italy,Tiziano,Anna,Maria from Istituto Comprensivo Statale Satriano di Lucania in Italy. The CLIL course began with a dynamic brainstorming session, encouraging participants to share their existing practices and prior experiences with CLIL. This collaborative activity created an engaging space for knowledge exchange and exploration. The course then moved into a theoretical overview of CLIL principles, highlighting the importance of teaching subject content through a second language. Throughout the sessions, special emphasis was placed on the teacher’s pivotal role in facilitating language integration and fostering a rich learning environment that supports both content mastery and language development. Participants gained insight into effective lesson planning within the CLIL framework, exploring practical tips and techniques for creating engaging and meaningful lessons. Through the exchange of resources and experiences, they began developing drafts of their own CLIL lesson plans, which later served as the foundation for hands-on practice and further refinement. The course explored how to integrate engaging texts and videos into CLIL classrooms, encouraging the creative use of multimedia resources to enhance learning. Participants examined a range of ICT tools for education, focusing on those most relevant to their specific needs and interests. Through hands-on practice, they learned to create educational games and interactive presentations, effectively incorporating these tools into their CLIL lesson plans. Participants were introduced to experiential learning activities designed to enrich CLIL lessons. They explored effective strategies to promote collaboration and peer learning, encouraging meaningful language use around the subject content. Through hands-on experiences, participants gained valuable insights into creating an interactive and immersive learning environment.
Finally, participants presented their finalized lesson plans, showcasing the strategies and activities they had developed throughout the week. This demonstrated their readiness to design engaging, language-rich CLIL classrooms. More info on this course here. |
