Learning Italian, although difficult, can be useful for many things. Teachers, for example, can use it in order to communicate with students, italian-speaking migrants or to connect with Italian schools. Plus, In a multicultural world, learning new languages is always useful. The new course “Intensive Italian Language Course for Education Staff”, designed by ELA trainers took place in Palermo from 03/11/2024 to 09/11/2024. The participants, who came from Germany, Hungary and France were in an intermediate B1/B2 level group, with Orsolya from Szent Ágoston Keresztény Általános Iskola és Gimnázium, Thomas from Christian-Ernst-Gymnasium Erlangen and Nelly from Baudimont school With the purpose of giving an immersive experience of the city along with practical lessons, dynamic activities and different assignments, the group has discussed many topics in italian, feeling by the end of the week more fluent and comfortable speaking and writing in italian The activities were all practical, based on real necessities and needs. The group talked about subjects like work, culture, travel, hobbies, dreams and public speaking while studying grammar topics like tenses, adverbs and vocabulary. This method was useful and efficient thanks to his practice- oriented philosophy, the participants easily understood and used what they learned. During the first day of the course the participants did a job interview exercise, in which they presented themselves and talked about school systems of their countries. Later on, they simulated a planned trip to some locations in northern and southern italy. During this exercise they got comfortable with many different Italian dialects. An important tool for language learning is ICT. The group did learn vocabulary and made creative presentations about their hobbies using online tools, which gave them a lot of ideas for their classes. They also did an exercise about food and cooking, consisting in translating recipes and recognising the names of the ingredients needed in it. Finally they took some time to talk about public speaking and ways to make it more functional Since it is an important topic, time was also part of the program. The participants had a chance to talk about topics like desires, plans and dreams in Italian. We would like them to keep using it in the future. Overall, participants had both fun and enriching conversations while still making meaningful progress in Italian. At the end of the week, they acquired not only a better use of the Italian language but also the beautiful memories and the new relationships they made through the experience they had.
