In today’s fast-paced educational environment, stress and emotional fatigue have become common challenges for teachers and school staff. The “Mindfulness and Meditation for Teachers and Education Staff: Cultivating Students’ and Teachers’ Well-Being” course provided practical strategies to manage stress, deepen emotional awareness, and support a more mindful and balanced approach to teaching and learning. Held in Tenerife from 27/04/2025 to 03/05/2025, the course welcomed educators from across Europe. with Monika from Robert-koch-Gy mnasium Deggendorf in Germany, Veronika stegmair from fosbos weibenburg in Germany, Cora chaudron and Elodie Laurent from ERea jean Bart in France, Jocelyn Azema and Carolina limbado from stiftelsen fryshuse in Sweden, Pia moschitz from Klusemann Extern in Austria. An important element of the course centered on how breathing techniques can help manage stress. Participants explored practices like abdominal breathing and the 4-7-8 method, discovering how mindful breathwork can calm the nervous system and support emotional balance. These techniques were simple, effective, and easily woven into the school day for both educators and students. Throughout the course, teachers also engaged in guided meditations, body scans, and daily journaling to deepen their self-awareness and sense of presence. These reflective practices offered valuable space to pause, helping them recognize emotional triggers and respond with greater clarity, patience, and compassion. Several sessions took place outdoors, allowing participants to connect with mindfulness through nature. They practiced walking meditations; at the beach, attention was centered on breath and the rhythmic sounds of the sea; and in the tranquil surroundings of Bollullo beach and Playa Jardin 8 m, they took part in reflective activities. These immersive experiences enriched their inner calm and fostered a deeper connection to themselves and the natural world. The course also examined how mindfulness can be meaningfully integrated into the classroom setting. Educators explored practical techniques such as brief breathing exercises, attention-building activities, and mindful transitions to support focus and calm throughout the school day. They also engaged in mindful listening and communication practices to enhance relationships with students and colleagues.
By the end of the week, participants had created their mindfulness toolkits and developed clear plans to implement these practices in their schools. They returned home feeling centered, confident, and motivated to cultivate more mindful and supportive learning environments. Course here. |
