Building Bridges of Communication: An Immersive Approach to English Language Learning

English, the language of international communication, plays a vital role in today's interconnected world. With over 1.35 billion people proficient in English, it serves as a gateway for global citizens to connect and engage. A new edition of the course “Intensive English language course for teachers and education staff​“ course for teachers” took place in Bologna from 02/07/2023 to 08/07/2023. This course aimed to enhance the participants' language skills, focusing on communication, grammar, and vocabulary at the B1/B2 level. We welcomed eight education staff from the Koszalin University of Technology in Poland: Danuta Z., Dariusz K, Rafał R., Krzysztof D., Agnieszka M., Anna S-P., Joanna C., and Agnieszka S. This amazing group brought their enthusiasm and motivation, creating a vibrant and collaborative learning environment.

Tailored Approach to Language Learning: Understanding the unique needs and expectations of the participants, the course was tailored to their specific requirements while adhering to the B1/B2 English level proficiency. A collaborative introductory activity created an interactive atmosphere that stimulated knowledge sharing and exploration while also determining how the trainer could best meet the needs of the participants. Immediately, the group proved to be very motivated and engaged, allowing us to delve into a multitude of topics to further develop their English proficiency. The open and welcoming dynamics the participants shared allowed for rewarding collaborative and team-based activities and a supportive environment that facilitated learning.

Balanced Approach in Grammar, Conversation, and Vocabulary: To ensure a comprehensive learning experience, the course maintained a balanced approach between grammar topics, conversational practice, and vocabulary expansion. Participants engaged in interactive sessions that allowed them to apply their grammar knowledge in practical contexts, facilitating their language acquisition and reinforcing correct usage. Throughout the course, we utilized game-based tools, multimedia content, and engaging and dynamic experiential activities to further enhance learning, retention, and laughter in the classroom!

Expanding Vocabulary and Idiomatic Expressions: Language fluency requires a robust vocabulary and familiarity with idiomatic expressions. Throughout the course, participants were exposed to a wide range of vocabulary relevant to various topics, situations, and cultures. They were encouraged to actively incorporate new words and idiomatic expressions into their speaking and writing, enabling them to express themselves more effectively and authentically.

Listening Comprehension and Public Speaking: Listening and speaking skills were prioritized througohut the course. Participants honed their listening comprehension through engaging audio materials, including official language tests, presentations, and music. Interactive speaking activities, such as group discussions, class speeches, and role-plays, provided opportunities to practice fluency, accuracy, and effective communication strategies.

Grammar Refinement and Complex Structures: Building upon the participants' existing grammar knowledge, the course delved into more complex grammatical structures and usage. Topics covered included verb tenses (e.g., past perfect and present perfect), conditionals (zero, first, second, and third), reported speech, passive voice, modal verbs, and phrasal verbs. Through guided practice and targeted exercises, participants strengthened their command of grammar, enabling them to express themselves with greater precision and grammatical accuracy.
The intensive English language course transformed participants' language skills, broadening their understanding of English usage and fostering confidence in various contexts. By focusing on communication, grammar, vocabulary, and cultural aspects, the course equipped them with improved language proficiency. These participants are well-prepared to navigate international environments, contribute to the internationalization of education, and excel as effective communicators in their professional and personal lives.

It was a great experience working with the staff at the Koszalin University of Technology. We will truly miss the positive and passionate energy brought by every one of the participants. A particularly positive working atmosphere was created through their engagement, interest in learning, and joy in working together. It was an exceptionally enjoyable experience to collaborate with such an enthusiastic group. May their return home be richer with knowledge, skills, friendship and inspiration!
