Bullying, whether occurring in virtual or face-to-face interactions, has harmful effects not only on its victims but also on the perpetrators themselves: this is the reason why the primary objective of this course is to gain insights into effective methods for preventing all forms of bullying and cyber bullying in educational and school environments. The latest edition of the course "How to stop bullying and cyber bullying in schools and promote social emotional learning" was held in Tenerife from 03/03/2024 to 09/03/2024. Participants came from all across Europe, including Regina and Maria from Agrupamento de Escolas Emídio Navarro in Portugal, Hildur, Kristjana and Fjóla from Menntaskólinn Vid Sund in Iceland, Lise and Siv-Hege from Hønefoss vgs in Norway, Dimitra, Evangelia and Vasiliki from 1st Experimental Junior High School of Samos in Greece. The course started with an introductory session where participants engaged in collaborative brainstorming in order to identify various forms of bullying behaviours, discuss the individuals involved in bullying scenarios and delineate the key elements distinguishing bullying from conflicts. After that the discussion shifted towards understanding the vulnerabilities of victims, exploring the risk factors predisposing children to bullying and examining strategies for prevention: these topics were approached from a familial, institutional (school-based), individual and communal perspectives. Cyber bullying emerged as a significant and challenging issue to deal with due to its prevalence and the presence of the internet in children's lives: through practical activities, members of the course delved into the complexities of cyberbullying, examining its distinctions from traditional bullying and identifying shared characteristics, so a compelling activity was implemented to foster empathy among participants, applicable to students, parents and educators alike. Establishing a positive classroom environment is crucial in preventing bullying behaviours: therefore participants delved into themes such as emotional intelligence, inclusivity and collaborative learning. These aspects were highlighted as essential pillars for creating a supportive learning environment and the exploration of these concepts was facilitated through engaging non-formal activities and games, ensuring an interactive and stimulating learning experience.
