In today's fast-paced world, it's common to experience overwhelming feelings and struggle to manage our daily responsibilities. Whether it's at work or in our personal lives, stress can often lead to conflicts that seem challenging to navigate. In this course, participants engaged into a blend of theory and hands-on exercises aimed at equipping them with tools and techniques to manage and overcome conflicts and stressful situations. The new edition of the course “Stress and Conflict Management: the way to resilience and satisfaction” took place in Bologna from 10/03/2024 to 16/03/2024. This tailored session was organized for participants from the German organization Ländliche Erwachsenenbildung in Niedersachsen e.V., including Börjes Michaela, Dreyer Elvira, Dunkmann Sandra, Jerke Katharina, Borsari-Stanislawski Sibylla, Pieper Solveig, and Raguse Ariane. The first day of the course was dedicated to exploring the concept of stress. Participants engaged in group discussions to brainstorm what stress means to them. Stress arises from various stressors stemming from physical, environmental, familial, or work-related factors. Participants also discovered that stress, in small doses, can be beneficial, motivating us to achieve goals or meet deadlines. This distinction between negative stress, known as Distress, and positive stress, Eustress, was a key takeaway from the session. Throughout the course, we also explored stress management techniques, including cognitive and behavioral strategies aimed at addressing common stressors in professional settings. Through interactive group exercises, participants enhanced their planning and time management skills, necessary for navigating workplace pressures effectively. A significant aspect of the course was conflict management. Participants gained insights into different conflict management styles and were introduced to the Six Thinking Hats method. Through practical exercises, they learned to apply conflict resolution techniques, fostering collaborative problem-solving approaches. Despite its challenges, they recognized conflict as an opportunity for personal and professional growth.
During the course we focused on assertiveness and mindfulness. Participants learned how to communicate assertively and set boundaries at work. They practiced mindfulness, learning how to stay focused and calm during stress and becoming more aware of their thoughts and feelings. Mindfulness helps us handling stress better and creating a positive work atmosphere. In conclusion, this week has been incredibly enriching and we're delighted that participants have acquired new tools and techniques to navigate challenges effectively, fostering resilience and satisfaction in both their personal and professional lives.
