Teamwork can sometimes be challenging: different personalities, miscommunications and an unclear definition of roles are all aspects that can all negatively impact group efficiency. This course aimed to teach a variety of skills that ensure team efficiency and promote a positive workplace environment. Participants gained valuable insights on becoming better team leaders and members in a workplace setting. The new edition of the course “Effective Organization Management” took place in Palermo from 20/05/2024 to 31/05/2024. All of the participants came from Poland: Zofia Czubak, Wanda Tyka, Mieczysław Tyka, Krystyna Pilch, Elżbieta Kuraś, Kazimiera Włodarczyk, Dorota Kaczmarczyk, Anna Walaszek, Jan Kukieła and Zofia Kukieła, belonging to Stowarzyszenie Rozwoju Kłaja. During the activities, we explored various aspects of working in groups and leading teams, emphasizing the differences between the two. A key point was that a team is driven by a common goal, and effective team leaders prioritize this shared objective. Additionally, participants gained insights into the different stages of team development and the characteristics of each stage, enabling them to identify the best strategies to address tensions and resolve issues. We also focused on effective team leadership and leadership styles. A good leader needs to adapt to different situations and understand both the strengths and weaknesses of their team members and the group’s dynamics. Participants learned that there isn’t just one way to be a great leader: each style has its own pros and cons, and the style can be applied depending on the team and situation. Participants also took individual tests to identify their own leadership styles. Additionally, the course covered the basics of the importance of a growth mindset, emphasizing how these elements can maintain motivation and a positive atmosphere within the team. We also emphasized the crucial role of emotional intelligence and empathy in effective leadership. Understanding and managing one’s own emotions, as well as recognizing and influencing the emotions of others, are all key aspects to navigate group dynamics and build strong and cohesive teams. Empathy allows leaders to connect with their team members on a deeper level, fostering trust and collaboration. This emotional insight helps leaders to adapt to various situations and maintain a positive and motivated team environment. The course also wanted to show participants the effective communication styles, highlighting assertiveness as a fundamental part of group leadership. Participants had the chance to face different kinds of situations where they were required to manage conflicts, cope with stress and confront differences. The course also aimed to teach participants how to avoid prejudices, stereotypes and discrimination in the workplace, especially in group leading activities. In conclusion, over the course of two weeks, the group also had the opportunity to engage in outdoor activities and games focused on group leadership. These experiences allowed participants to apply what they learned about teamwork and leadership in practical and dynamic settings. By exploring different leadership styles, understanding team dynamics, and shaping their emotional intelligence and empathy, participants are now better equipped to lead and collaborate effectively in their professional environments.
