At this time soft skills are increasingly vital in both professional and everyday settings: as a matter of fact abilities like emotional intelligence, empathy, teamwork, conflict resolution and stress management hold equal significance in and out of educational environments. This is the reason why, through a blend of theoretical insights and practical exercises, the following course enhanced communication skills. The recent edition of the course "Soft skills and emotional intelligence for teachers and education staff" took place in Tenerife from 25/02/2024 to 02/03/2024. Attendees hailed from diverse European countries, including Nathalie from Direction diocésaine de l'enseignement catholique d'Ille-et-Vilaine in France, Anja from Majde vrhovnik primary school Ljubljana in Slovenia, Miha from SGLZŠ Postojna in Slovenia, Emanuela, Adela, Elena and Șeila from Liceul Tehnologic “Axiopolis” Cernavodă in Romania, Marianna, Mariarita, Daiana and Amelia from Santa Ninfa Palermo in Italy, Renata and Sylvia from Istituto Fabio Besta in Italy. The course commenced with a discussion on emotional intelligence, denoting the ability to discern not just one's own feelings but also those of others, fostering self-awareness and environmental sensitivity. In the meantime empathy, alongside skills like self-control, self-motivation and establishing connections, was emphasized through practical exercises. An effective teacher is akin to a proficient classroom leader, providing motivation and guidance toward specific objectives: since leadership, existing in various forms, demands adaptability to different situations, participants contemplated admired leadership traits and reflected on numerous leadership styles. Effective communication stands paramount for team collaboration: so on the one hand teachers delve into varied communication styles, among which aggressive, passive, passive-aggressive and assertive, while on the other hand they learned that assertiveness, though challenging, does not equate to impoliteness but rather denotes effective expression of desires. In order to refine communication prowess, participants engaged in public speaking exercises, learning techniques for self-presentation, body language control and nonverbal communication mastery: finally, boosting confidence, they delivered brief one-minute speeches, applying newfound skills. The course culminated with conflict resolution and stress management discussions: during these days shared experiences underscored that collaborative endeavors often entail navigating interpersonal conflicts, viewed not solely as detrimental but also as avenues for personal and professional growth.
In conclusion it can be said without a doubt that this course underscored how much learning extends beyond traditional classroom confines: in point of fact participants, hailing from diverse backgrounds, enriched the collective learning experience, facilitated by networking opportunities within culturally immersive activities.
